RESOURCE Helps Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue Create a Job Club at a launch Seminar
31 October 2010
RESOURCE provided advice, materials and speakers to the S&P for a one day seminar for its congregations aimed at members who either are unemployed or are facing the threat of unemployment. As a result a new and vibrant Job Club has been established in London for Sephardi Jews.
RESOURCE was approached by Rabbi Jeff Berger of the S&P to help prepare the launch seminar and to advise on how Job Clubs work. Jeff’s approach to us was stimulated by a presentation given to all the London Sephardi Rabbis by Trisha Ward and Alan Sanders last year.
Trisha, Alan Shapiro and Andrea Shelley gave the S&P a great deal of help forming the content and presentation of the one day event and Gill Gurner and Gerry Temple each led one of the four sessions on the day, the other sessions being covered by the Rabbi and appropriate S&P speakers.
Some 17 S&P members attended the seminar and several have subsequently enrolled as clients at RESOURCE.
The concept of a Job Club was totally new to the S&P (the UK.s oldest Jewish congregation founded in London in 1656) and the synagogue has expressed it.s gratitude to RESOURCE for its valuable and professional input.
