Main Duties
Manage the social work staff: recruitment, training, supervising, evaluation, discipline and managing the day-to-day operations; co-ordinate caseloads among the social worker, assisting when needed; carry a small caseload of clients – first and second generation Holocaust survivors and refugees – and offer them support, guidance, advice and practical assistance; be prepared to travel, to meet with colleagues on a regular basis; make clear,concise assessments – including financial eligibility – and recommendations of the various forms of assistance/other services available to AJR members – in accordance with guidelines; present cases for financial assistance at meetings; supervise and support training needs of Qualified Social Workers to comply with post-qualification CPD training criteria and develop training opportunities for non-qualified members of staff; be responsible for meeting requirements for risk assessment; maintain a duty rota and holiday rota; other duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Knowledge and Experience
 Have an understanding of the health, emotional and psychological issues of the elderly and vulnerable
 An awareness of the range of financial help and services available from Local Authority and other voluntary organisations
 Advancing skills in individual and group supervision. Ability to confront performance and organizational challenges.
 Knowledge of welfare benefits and residential care resources
 Be able to support, supervise and manage a team or department of social workers
 Ability to work independently
 Ability to work in an anti-discriminatory manner
 Manage all social work referrals
 Be able to develop links with outside agencies and other communal organisations
 Clear communication skills, tactful and sensitive manner
 A conscientious and dedicated work ethic
 Good administration skills
Personal Qualities
 An ability for leadership and management
 Shows empathy, sensitivity and respect when supporting clients
 Excellent interpersonal skills and gain the respect and trust of both staff members and AJR clients
 Develop relationships with colleagues from other communal organisations
 Be a good team player and be prepared to offer peer group support
