Resource's History

From a service initiated by Jewish Care in response to the 1990s recession and the growing number of families in crisis, Resource has grown into an independent charity which has helped over 8000 people find their feet and get back on the career ladder.

1992

Jewish Care sets up an employment service modelled on a professional outplacement service, which later becomes known as ERC (The Employment Resource Centre)

2003

Due to budget restraints and a focus on core services, Jewish Care reluctantly withdraws funding.  However, a group of committed volunteers ensure the service continues without a break with seed funding and support from Jewish Blind & Disabled.  It is due to the perseverance and dedication of this group that this valuable service is saved.

2004

The ERC is incorporated as an independent charity and moves to its own premises in Fairacres, East Finchley, hosted by Jewish Blind & Disabled.

2005-2006

Funding (thanks to the City Parochial Fund and the Milly Althorpe Trust) grows and allows ERC to re-establish earlier programmes as well as develop new services and courses to reflect the needs of the current job market.

2009

ERC moves into new offices in Finchley Central, allowing existing accommodation in East Finchley to be reconfigured into a seminar space. Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks is guest of honour for the official inauguration of the new centre.

December 2009

ERC changes its name to Resource, the Jewish Employment Advice Centre.  Re-branded and re-invigorated to cope with a more than doubling demand for its services with an expanded range of seminars, additional office space, and a number of brand new advisors and mentors.
