Eleanor Tweddell joins Resource for an inspiring lunchtime event

23rd December 2020
Another Door

We held an inspiring and motivating special lunchtime event featuring Another Door Founder, Eleanor Tweddell.

Eleanor, Founder and podcast host of Another Door and author of Why Losing Your Job Could Be The Best Thing That Ever Happened To You, gave a transformational talk to inspire and motivate with her five steps to thrive in your career journey.

If you missed the event, here are Eleanor’s five steps to taking control and how to use this time as an opportunity to explore what you want to do and how to take action to make it work for you.

1. Shock

Accepting the shock of the news of redundancy is the first step to moving on. It’s ok not to feel ok about it. Whether you feel shocked, angry, anxious or confused, it’s ok. The main thing is to understand what you’re feeling and give yourself space to think and process what happened.

2. Stuck

Once you’ve accepted the shock, you may feel stuck and unsure of what to do next. It’s important to recognise that being stuck is a good thing as it means you’re ready to move on and to make things happen. The space between a door closing and your next door opening can be full of discovery and opportunity.

3. Slow, Slow, Go

Slow everything down. Slowing down your thinking is especially important in getting clarity. Figure out what is driving you and be clear on both what you want to do as well as what you need to do. Once you have figured out your wants and needs, you can work out your options and move on with a plan.

4. Unstuck

Now you have a view on what you want to do, you can make a plan and start to take small steps towards achieving this. Becoming unstuck is about taking action – stepping out and making yourself visible. This is also the stage where you should be aware of your network. Look at who you are surrounding yourself with and note whether they inspire you, help you or can open up contacts for you.

5. Thrive

Once you’ve become ‘unstuck’ and are ready to put yourself out there, know that things may not always go as planned or in your favour. But see rejection as a sign that you’re trying and failure as part of progression. Once you recognise that’s a part of it, that’s when you start to thrive. Stay focused, take action and importantly, feel the fear but do it anyway.
