Resource sell-out supper quiz raises record £10,000

More than 300 guests came to Resource’s supper quiz at Mill Hill Synagogue’s Ner Orre Community Centre on Sunday, 5 June. It was non-profit Resource’s largest fundraising event to date – and a record £10,000 was raised towards Resource’s free support, guidance and training programmes to help unemployed members of the Jewish community get back into the workplace.

Said CEO Victoria Sterman: “More people than ever have come to know about the invaluable work we do for the community and are keen to support us with their generosity of time and money.   We help around 70 people seeking work or aiming to set up in business every week and over 60 per cent go on to find employment.”

Sponsored Activity Success Story: Linda’s Team Scores Twice for Resource

Linda Yentob was looking for a way to rekindle her love of playing netball and was contemplating arranging a charity match.   She hadn’t decided which charity to support when she heard the good news that a friend had found work with the help of Resource.   She enquired further and discovered more about what Resource does to help members of the Jewish community rejoin the workplace.

She was impressed.   Her decision was made.

In no time Linda had gathered a group of friends and family.   They ranged from late 30s to mid-60s and even the youngest hadn’t played for 20 years.   Others for up to 50!

Linda, standing fourth from right, with her netballing fundraisers.

The match, played in March at Mill Hill’s Copthall School, raised nearly £2,000 in match fees and donations.

As if that wasn’t enough, Linda is now organising a second match – this time with even more players.

“It’s been really worthwhile,” said Linda.   “We’ve all had a fantastic time getting back to playing the game we enjoyed all those years ago while raising money to support the wonderful work Resource does.”
