Finding work later in life can be challenging. Many of the people who come to Resource have decades of experience, strong skills and a successful career behind them, yet they find themselves navigating a job market that has changed dramatically. We created Experience That Works, a tailored programme designed specifically for jobseekers aged 50 and over, to help these highly experienced people. Combining practical job search support, coaching, networking opportunities and digital skills, the programme helps people build confidence, update their approach and showcase the value of their experience to today's employers.
The past 12 months, 74 clients aged 50 and over have told us about the jobs they secured with our support, and lots more will be starting work and haven’t yet told us. Their ages range from 50 to 69 and the roles they have gone on to find are as varied as the people themselves. Among them are a Marketing Consultant, Administrator, Chef, Hotel Doorman, CEO and National Account Manager. Some have returned to the sectors they know best, while others have taken their careers in entirely new directions. The organisations they now work for are equally diverse. They include charities such as Jewish Care, the British Heart Foundation and a local hospice, as well as Royal Mail, Lloyds Bank, television production companies and major financial institutions. For us, these results are about far more than numbers.
Every one of those 74 successes is someone who has lost confidence, felt overlooked because of their age, or simply needed help understanding how the world of recruitment has changed. Many had not looked for a job in years, and have felt totally overwhelmed. Some had never needed to use LinkedIn, navigate online application systems or think about how AI might fit into their job search. Our role is to help them bridge that gap.
Joining Experience That Works starts with an individual meeting with one of our Advisors. We take time to understand where they are now, what they are looking for and what support will be most helpful. From there, most attend our full-day Job Search & CV workshop, which provides a practical guide to today's employment market, covering everything from job boards and networking to the hidden job market, CV writing and the growing role of AI in the recruitment process. Clients can also be offered one-to-one coaching, peer networking opportunities and IT support. We know that confidence, motivation and a sense of connection can be just as important as practical job search skills.
